General Review

Food excellent, service excellent But the only thing lacking is the mood. I would have liked to hear some background authentic thai music, then my evening would have been perfect.

Will definately return as true value for money and divine taste experience.

Terrific Thai...

Had dinner at Sai Thai tonight with friends - lovely fresh Thai food: Tom Yum soup, papaya salad, green curry, pad thai, etc. Service was great and we had a wonderful evening. Will be back soon. Remember to bring your own wine or beer. Credit cards accepted.

Good, yes, exceptional, so easily could be..

Let me just start by saying that Sai Thai is a pretty decent place to eat, no doubt about that. The food is much more likely to make you think Oh, that's what Green Curry should taste like! than make you feel like it's just another Thai restaurant. And that's great.. Sauces taste fresh, and not like they've been bought in bulk from outside...who knows, they may have been, but that's not the impression you get.

So, why not a rave review? Well, the chicken satay starter was a disappointment; the chicken was so dry and touch it felt like it had been cooked a few times, rather than once.. The ambience of the place is spoilt by strands of white LED lights, posters about the food, and adverts for some Thai well-being place.. nothing about the décor works, right down to the huge PC with it's trick illuminated cooling fan, sitting in full view at the reception area.. I'm sorry to say that it's not a great looking place. And plastic table mats? No excuses, get rid of them!

And lastly, for all I know, coffee may not be a popular drink in Thailand, but to only serve 'Nescafe' coffee really is unacceptable. OK, you don't have to go mad and buy a Gaggia, but at least serve a decent filter coffee...

So, a little more QC on the ingredients (well, the chicken certainly), a major re-think on the décor (and this really should be an easy fix - just take down the posters, remove all LED strand lights, and get rid of the plastic table mats, and you're 50% done!) - and buy a few Bodums and some filter coffee! Et voilà, you're heading towards 'special'. Fundamentally, the cooking here is very good, just a few details don't do it justice.
