Description: Their mission is to offer you an unforgettable South African dining experience with some Swiss and French influences. Le Petit, meals are always prepared with freshest, best quality ingredients. Their style of cooking is the traditional, old fashioned unrushed type. Chefs Llewellyn and Warwick will personally see that your meals get prepared to heavenly perfection. Open a delicious bottle of South African Estate wine. Sit back, relax and enjoy great food and warm hospitality. You will taste our passion for good food! Llewellyn Thatcher a qualified chef, has built up a solid reputation over the past 25 years, and Le Petit is consistently rated as one of the best restaurants in East London. A favourite with locals and a must for visitors, the food is good, service excellent and ambience delightful. Beautifully appointed with dark wood panelling, the Swiss-style décor is reminiscent of an old country manor house. Plush red carpeting, ornate glass lampshades, and Swiss memorabilia complete the authentic look that is warm and inviting. Adjacent to the main restaurant is a completely separate function room which seats 36 people. The décor follows the same theme as the rest of the interior, but with the novel idea of depicting Swiss mountain scenes through cleverly designed windows. Highly popular is the cosy Grischa bar where Llewellyn finds time to converse with locals. There is also an enclosed courtyard and upstairs pub-style venue (the Swiss Loft) with snooker table, dart boards and now a Mini Casino with newly installed slot machines, for those who prefer more informal surroundings. The menu is predominantly Swiss/Continental with some unusual specialties such as Crocodile Steak "Dundee", Buffalo Fillet, and a superb Ostrich Steak Flambé, which is prepared at the table. Flambés are a House Specialty, and there are several to choose from. We also specialise in Seafood and Top Grade Steak Specialities. Our home-made Pecan Nut Pie is one of the favourite desserts at Le Petit. |
