Description: Asian food has always been the mainstay of the Thai Africa group combining all the delicate flavours of Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese cuisines. Now, with the addition of some good old-fashioned comfort food “Kong Roast” offers East meets West in a superb location with a spacious deck and elevated views. Ascending the staircase to the entrance lobby, two large plasma screens display a variety of stunning visuals to wet your appetite so to speak, and give you a glimpse of the dining pleasure you are about to experience. Starting first with Roast, the wave-like ceiling flows effortlessly through to the covered deck, and the palette of browns and creams creates a soft soothing background that is tasteful and understated. The décor at Roast certainly provides a refreshing contrast to the very traditional interiors which have become a trademark of the Thai Africa group. The indoor/outdoor flow is superb, as the enormous terrace can be fully enclosed in inclement weather or opened up to make the most of the views over Craighaven and North Riding. Separating Kong from Roast is the glamorous bar area with its climate controlled glass wine room, and funky purple lighting along the sleek and sexy bar counter. A five metre- long black leather couch invites you to sit back and enjoy a cocktail or too, and contrasts perfectly with the chic white leather bar stools. No problem when the bar gets full, you simply spill out onto the terrace with its comfortable wooden furniture. On the other side of the bar is Kong - daringly different with lots of black and purple. Dramatic features of the interior are the five life-size terracotta warriors majestically positioned overlooking the tables, and the rich copper wall which accentuates the sushi bar and black granite top. Upstairs from Kong is the mezzanine level which is intimate and romantic (with angled glass mirrors and strategically placed candles), yet at the same time, it’s provocative and alluring with black velvet draped walls and black leather furniture. This area is ideal for small private functions and can accommodate 45 seated. For cocktail parties and corporate events the spacious terrace will suits your needs perfectly. At Roast the menu features specialities such as lamb shank, encrusted parmesan linefish and an excellent chateaubriand, as well as wholesome stews and creme brulee (just like mamma use to make!). Starter recommendations at Kong are the spicy duck samoosas, beef in ginger and of course the best sushi in town. For main course try the salmon teriyaki or the royal beef, and finish with the Thai silk (duo of white and dark chocolate ganache). There is an ample selection of dishes for vegetarians too. |
