Description: De la Crème is something of an institution in Melville and no visit to this suburb would be complete without enjoying a wholesome meal or sampling something sweet from the fantastic bakery. Located in a prime position on the corner of the busiest intersection, the impressively styled facade is hard to miss. The charming decor is comfortably elegant with its high ornate pressed ceiling, chandeliers and old fashioned drapes framing the handsome wooden windows. De la Crème simply oozes character which is something hard to find in many of today's more contemporary restaurants with their stark white interiors. One side of the restaurant De la Crème serves amazing confectionery, and the other half is a tea room styled restaurant. All the amazing selection of cakes, biscuits, pastries and bread are made on the premises under the supervision of hands-on owner Okan. The Chelsea buns are simply the best in town, the croissants are buttery and flaky, and the bee sting cake has a flock of followers from all over the country! Not to mention the Belgian chocolates made with the finest Callebaut chocolate and Okan's legendary steak roll which is one of the daily specials. It's no surprise that the menu is large and caters not only for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but also for mid- morning coffee and afternoon tea. The breakfast choice is substantial with everything from the enormous farmhouse breakfast to a more modest anchovy toast. Throughout the day you can enjoy a toasted sandwich with chips or salad (try the roast beef and mozzarella) or one of the freshly made sandwiches offering specialities like the El Turco with grilled vegetables, mozzarella, lettuce and rocket. Daily specials include fish & chips, chicken a la king and lamb chops. Main course recommendations are the Lamb shank, traditional Greek moussaka and the rare roast fillet with three sauces (smoky tomato, rocket & horseradish and watercress & mustard). |
