Ambiance: Trendy Main course (avg): R80 Licensed: no Open: Lunch , Dinner Monday - Sunday: 12:00 - late
Description: Midori is once again back in Morningside in bigger and better premises that are chic and modern. Bold white leather chairs and white tables contrast with delicate Japanese style wallpaper. A huge attraction is the enormous under cover seating area which is able to accommodate the many regular Northern suburbs clientele who can't get enough of Midori's cuisine. The kitchen and sushi counter may be small but the talented chefs work non stop to keep up with the demand for sushi and Japanese specialities. Popular starters are the crispy spring rolls, spicy soups, rice paper wraps and deep-fried tofu and then of course there's sushi. There is a vast selection to choose from as well as the flexibility to make your own sushi platter of whatever takes your fancy. Specialities include the crushed tuna served on a bed of bok choi and the chop-chop – cubes of salmon and tuna sashimi coated with five spice, soya and sesame seeds and served on a bed of Japanese rice. More traditional Japanese dishes include teriyaki (which is available in five options including salmon or fillet) and nabiyaki noodles served in a soup containing chicken, Chinese cabbage, egg, and two tempura prawns. The menu also offers a selection of fragrant Thai curries as well as Chinese favourites such as oyster beef, chicken chow mein and hot chilli chicken. Finish off with your choice of Chinese tea, which is not only hot and refreshing but also contains healthy anti-oxidants! |
