Description: A well-respected local favourite, Wombles is situated in the ever-trendy see-and-be-seen Parktown North. The restaurant is renowned for its prime cuts of juicy fillet steak � also its signature dish when teamed with the original Wombles sauce. The wine list is definitely worth a test-drive, with many local wineries represented at competitive prices. Booking is essential.

The good thing about restaurateurs who've been running successful restaurants for more than 20 years is that you can bank on them getting most things right. Opened in Harare in 1984, the original Wombles' reputation as Zimbabwe's best-ever steakhouse (rivalled only by The Akropolis, which had long since closed) spread far and wide.

My most memorable restaurant, 16 Sep 2011

Comments: Last year October, my boyfriend and I went to Wombles for the first time, to celebrate our anniversary. And what can I say...it DEFINITELY lived up to its name. Now, I'm not a huge meat-eater, but I can honestly say that I dreamt of the steak I had there for weeks afterward! The service was fantastic, the ambience was awesome and the food...well...the food.

Also, we really loved how they scattered rose petals on our table and made it feel really special. We weren't planning on having desert because we were so full, but before we could protest, the waiters brought each of us a complementary plate of ice-cream in a burnt-sugar cage with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate sauce around the edge of the plate. It was magnificent. As students, we were broke for quite a while after but it was sooooo worth it! So much in fact, that we're planning on heading there again in three weeks time for our next anniversary.
