Description: The homely atmosphere of Villa Paolo is created with pieces of old-fashioned furniture and walls hung with plenty of pictures and mirrors. The well-stocked cellar boasts with Italian wines and a well positioned corner bar provides an excellent flow onto the covered terrace. Overlooking the terrace is a delightful walled garden with well positioned trees and lush planting. The overall impression is that of an authentic looking Italian piazza, complete with traditional Vespa scooter leaning casually against the wall. The trees are strung with fairy lights and together with the tinkling fountain the evening ambience is definitely intimate and romantic. The superb décor is complimented by an excellent menu which offers all the traditional Italian favourites. On the starter menu the Rosette (spinach and mozzarella filled pasta in a creamy sauce) is highly recommended, as is the impressive Carpaccio - beef, duck, salmon, baby marrow and smoked beef! Besides the standard selection of pizzas there are one or two gourmet choices such as the Salmone (smoked salmon in pernod) and pasta lovers can choose from spaghetti, tagliatelle, linguine and penne, as well as several gnocchi dishes. There are plenty of main course specialities to tempt the palate including the Trota Della Casa - deboned trout baked in the pizza oven, or the imaginative Anetra di Paolo - duck breast flambéed in port and cognac. |
