La Bella Cafe, on the historic old site of Durban's first ever fire station in about 1887 or so, and later on a Berea sub-station, is one of the most striking eateries/pubs in Durban. This famous building was taken over two years ago by Durban entrepreneur Bob Humphreys. Bob has owned many successful businesses i.e. Three Monkeys, Shunters Arms and Thirsty's to name but a few. Bob took over St Tropez/Eden and began to create a new look with La Bella and the transformation was instant.

His idea was to offer a place that served good food at a good price; hence it has been turned into a homely, friendly Italian eatery, offering homemade pasta and pizzas. He then opened the La Bella bar/beer garden which has now become a popular drinking hole for Durbanites. Bob currently lives on the Berea with his partner Sally

Situated on the corner of Essenwood (Steven Dlamini) and St Thomas Roads, La Bella offers a three tier venue. There is the main pub area and beer garden, the perfect spot to meet friends and catch up after a long day at work. The Restaurant area is ideal for a family dinner and is right next to Essenwood Park which hosts one of Durban's finest markets each Saturday. Lastly we have a private function area on the second floor which overlooks Essenwood Park and is ideal for small groups.

The menu has an Italian flair and offers thin crispy base pizzas and mouthwatering pastas with many other specialties including Pork Shank and Baby Chicken. La Bella is open for breakfast with a variety to suit every pallet. On the lighter side the menu includes Panini's and superb salads. For those of you with a sweet tooth there are a variety of freshly-made cakes and tarts available. We also cater for the little Bambinos.

La Bella is the ideal venue for all from young to old. The atmosphere is warm and inviting - from the restaurant to the pub most will Labellians agree. We cater for all the sports fanatics with 5 big screens in our pub and beer garden.
