Description: Peddlars on the Bend is without doubt one of the best known landmarks in Constantia. Having recently celebrated its 16th birthday, it is fortunate to have built up a substantial following of loyal customers. Like a good wine, Peddlars has matured well over the years, and hence for many tourists, a day in Constantia would not be complete without a visit to this popular establishment. Peddlars has a unique ambience and with versatile seating and dining in the restaurant, bar, and garden is perfectly positioned to cater for all tastes. Located a stones through from some of the Cape's most prestigious wine estates, Peddlars has adopted an in depth approach when it comes to selecting and purchasing wines, as is evidenced by a very impressive temperature-controlled walk in wine cellar. The wine list has been compiled to offer a choice of wines defined by cultivar, style, vintage and price, and Peddlars have won several Diners Club Wine List awards. Having been recently renovated, the restaurant interior has been opened up with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the garden, which together with the new ceiling has created a bigger and brighter dining space. The décor boasts a fresh country look, with a slightly more contemporary feel due largely to the upholstered bench seating, and expansive mirrors. Rich autumn coloured fabrics create an elegant yet understated look, whilst the many prints and paintings reflect our abundant variety of flora and fauna. The handsome fireplace, which is a much loved feature of the restaurant, has thankfully remained to ensure that throughout the winter months there is always a welcoming fire burning in the hearth. On sunny days and warm evenings the attractive garden is filled to capacity with all available tables taken, and there is a superb indoor-outdoor flow from the bar (which has concertina doors that fold back) so that this area merges effortlessly into the garden. State of the art imported heaters and exceptionally strong waterproof umbrellas ensure that winter or summer, rain or shine, the garden is never without its regular customers. The well stocked bar offers local and imported beers, as well as a selection of cocktails, and in addition to the usual bar tables and stools, has comfy couches and its own fireplace. For those who enjoy a pub meal amidst the hustle and bustle of the nail biting sports matches, the bar area now has several dining tables. |
