Description:
If you can't take the heat, this may well be the kitchen to stay out of. If, on the other hand, you want your specially selected steak and fish grilled to perfection, welcome to 1800° - the premier grill room at the Cape Royale Plaza in the heart of Cape Town's trendy Green Point, beneath the landmark hotel and spa.

The name of the restaurant refers to a signature grill - imported from New York and the first of its kind in South Africa - that literally cooks steak at a temperature of 1800 degrees Fahrenheit resulting is moist, tender, melt-in-your-mouth steak. 1800° is no ordinary steakhouse. Guests can expect a premier dining experience with an emphasis on innovation, excellent service and exceptionally presented food.

With a stylish and contemporary feel, 1800° boasts a culinary offering, rich with international flavours and attracts local businessmen and professionals and other discerning restaurant goers in search of a refined, consistent and high quality offering.

Whilst the Head Chef, Jonathan Gargan, selects only the freshest seafood, meat is the star of the show at 1800°. Owner, Paschal Phelan, brings with him many years of experience in the meat industry in Ireland and, under his direction, his team ensures the best quality by inspecting suppliers' farms to maintain the highest standard of their meat offering.
The restaurant's succulent beef and other selected meats are grass reared and then grain fed for a short period to enhance the flavour and ensure tenderness. It is then matured to perfection in the grill room's temperature controlled storage.

The extensive range of signature steak and meat dishes is served with a choice of sauces from around the world, including the likes of sauces such as Argentinean Chimichurri, Indonesian Coffee, Madagascan Peppercorn, Spanish Madeira and Peruvian Anticuchos sauces. You can further enhance the flavour of your meat with an impressive variety of imported, hand-harvested, gourmet salts from around the world. Dark Pink Himalayan salt, Hawaiian True Kona deep water sea salt and Aleppo Chile pepper salt are only some of the specialty salts on offer.

Diners are spoilt for choice with over 100 expertly selected local and rare international wines on offer.

The focus throughout is on fresh produce and whole, pure foods prepared and served with excellence. In addition to the selection of steak and meat dishes, which includes Karoo Lamb rack, Twice cooked Peking style duck, Crispy roast chicken breast, Beef scaloppini, the menu offers a wide variety of fish such as imported salmon, shellfish, poultry and vegetarian options.

Excellent Service, Hospitality and Great Food!, 01 Feb 2011
Reviewer: Brandon (Adventurousness: What is the chef's special today?)

Comments: I cannot commend this place enough. The service and warmth was excellent from the front door to our seating. My girlfriend was well impressed with the setting and presentation of everything. The wine was especially good and the of course the mains. Wow! Cooked to perfection my grilled sirloin was perfect as well as the side portion of crunchy vegetables. A must for all Capetonians to go to and value for money in a beautiful setting.

Very nice night out, 06 Aug 2010
Reviewer: dirk (Adventurousness: What is the chef's special today?)

Comments: We are a group of 6 people that try different place each month. We have been doing this for 4 years now. And this place had by far the best service and style. And the food was excellent. The wine might be a bit pricey but overall a excellent experience.
