Restaurant description

The Gardener's Cottage is the original Gatekeepers lodge which formed part of the original Monte Bello Estate. The Homestead, Michaelis House, is now part of the S.A.C.S. School (next door).

The out buildings and Gardener's Cottage now form part of the Monte Bello Design Centre. The Monte Bello Design Centre is a developmental project aimed at promoting good local design and using craft for job creation. The Gardener's Cottage is privately owned and it's owner/chef has undertaken to train unskilled people in the art of cooking. They are open for light lunches, teas, breakfasts.

Visit some of the studios in the centre and you'll find a wealth of craft shops, ongoing research and workshops and classes to broaden your horizons. You'll even find San Shop "Kamatoka", a special project of the Xu! Khwe bushmen to market their art and artefacts to the public.
