Description: When Guido Chaplan found his appetite for life, he lost his waistline. Traveling to remote villages in the heart of France, he sampled the finest wines it had to offer. Olives in the piazza of Rome, fajitas from Mexico, curries in the backstreets of Bombay and even drank vodka like a true Russian, not forgetting the tastes of Scotland’s finest whisky. Making his way back across the plains of Africa, he settled in Cape Town to continue his love affair with good food and share the recipes he has stolen from kitchens around the world. Welcome to Chaplans - enjoy the experience! Situated in the new West Coast Village Centre, Chaplans has plenty of outside tables in the sheltered courtyard for al fresco dining in the summer months, with an added bonus of heaters to ensure comfort on chilly evenings. The interior is spacious and the décor makes a strong statement with lots of dark wood, natural stone, wrought iron candlebras, and upholstered seating. An added feature is a large bookcase offering a selection of magazines and newspapers to encourage patrons to relax and feel at home, and an impressive fireplace creates an intimate ambience during the winter months. Glass panels separate the bar area from the main section of the restaurant, and in addition to the spacious counter the bar has two televisions for sport lovers, plus a fireplace and comfortable seating. The menu offers a little bit of everything. You can start the day with a choice of breakfast dishes from full English to delicious omelettes. We are open throughout the day for you to come and enjoy a light meal or beverage. For a leisurely lunch try the Spicy Chicken Fajitas or the house special - Chaplans Club Sandwich. Main course selections include a tender Lamb Shank and the popular Chicken Fold Over. All the steaks are highly recommended, and vegetarians will enjoy the Vegetarian platter.
