That was not important to me. I never gave a thought to someone not being able to get to choose from a selection of yummy cakes (the carrot cake is to die for) while breathing in the perfume of 6000 rose fragrances (not all at once) over a beverage of your choice (brewed iced tea for me) while gazing out at awesome views of the Constantia Valley.
But fear not fellow wheelchair charioteer?s, the way is clear. Pulling into a parking area we immediately noticed bays for the disabled at the entrance to the coffee shop. I didn?t have my parking permit with me so I asked my carer of the day to park in a public bay. She happily did this and once seated we began a gentle roll over paved even ground. Two flights of stairs greeted us but so did two ramps. As we made our way inside there was sufficient room between the tables to not have my eyes poked out by waving forks and pointy elbows and once outside we found a table that shaded our eyes from the sun but not from the breath taking view of a rose garden, grape vines, lemon trees and mountains.
The toilet they have is accessible for me but not for wheelchair dependant mortals. But hey wheelchair souls don?t despair, this is not a reason to deny yourself the pleasure of a visit as this is the only place in the Cape Peninsula where you can select and pick your own roses even if you are wheelchair bound. Rumour has it that the paths to the roses are wheelchair friendly so mid October will find us returning to flower power ourselves with a bunch of hand-picked wild roses.
Just to show you how relaxed to can be, birds of a feather flocked together as wild birds were not so shy that my carrot cake shouldn't be sampled.
