Description:
The Barefoot Cook Restaurant is a quaint bistro in the backstreets of Hermanus. The picturesque and tranquil courtyard offers alfresco dining in summer and in winter a cosy room with wooden floors and open fireplace.

The ever changing menu is seasonally inspired and creatively conjured by the owner and chef, Mariclaire. All meals are made with the finest ingredients and freshest herbs available from her garden. European peasant food with a dash of fusion and creative license is what forms the basis of the menus. The kitchen stock pots simmer constantly; these stocks are the cornerstone to an excellent dish.

Mariclaire studied wine while at Hotel School, she has an excellent understanding of the Overberg wines and pairs them well with her food.

Nini, Thabisa and Bongiwe are well trained and a very happy team having been with her since opening the restaurant. She has taught them everything she knows and continues to teach as she learns herself. Mariclaire has worked in Germany, France, The Netherlands and the Caribbean gathering expertise while on her travels.

Outstanding, 01 Sep 2012
Reviewer: Wendy Northam (Adventurousness: What is the chef's special today?)

Comments: I was lucky enough to be included in a 50th birthday celebration whereby the Birthday Girl had booked the entire restaurant. I have nothing but praise for the owner, Mariclaire, plus her right hand lady, Rita, who together, single handedly made the whole experience one to remember. The food was to die for and the service outstanding. Ambiance, the best. These 2 ladies were remarkable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
