Description:
Surrounded by graceful milkwood trees, The Milkwood Restaurant occupies an idyllic spot with abundant views that encompass sea, mountains, river and fynbos from different vantage points. Situated in a nature conservation area, diners are often fortunate to see otters and kingfishers hunting their prey in the river, whilst further out to sea, whales frolic lazily in the cool blue waters. With large sliding glass windows and doors, the restaurant can be opened up in summer to take full advantage of the beauty surrounding it, and there is a large wooden deck perched right on the edge of the river bank which is popular for daytime dining or still balmy evenings.

In the kitchen the emphasis is on fresh produce, and service starts from 9.00 am with a good choice of breakfasts which are available until 11.00 am. A selection of light meals is served throughout the day, and afternoon teas include delicious home-made cheesecake and the highly recommended chocolate mousse cake.

At night the restaurant takes on a more formal appearance with candlelit tables, and the atmosphere is intimate and romantic with the sound of the waves breaking on the shore nearby. Seafood is Milkwood's speciality and the Linefish of the Day is a popular choice, closely followed by the Seafood Platter and the Calamari. The blackboard offers daily specials which usually include a game dish such as Ostrich or Venison. For starters we recommend the traditional Smoor Snoek, or the Grilled Mushrooms. Finish your meal with a deliciously rich Crème Brulee and a pot of Douwe Egbert's superb Dutch filter coffee. For the more adventurous, there is a nice selection of liqueur coffees to choose from.

Comments: Had Dinner at the Milkwood a week ago now and I already cannot wait to return, the view was amazing the food delicious and staff helpful and friendly, what more could a traveler as myself ask for. I was helped with accommodation and also all the places to watch for by the staff.

I would go back in a heart beat.

Comments: We had supper here last Friday night. The views were just incredible on the Lagoon and ocean. Service was friendly and the food was superb. Can definitely recommend the Mussel soup starter - the best I've had yet. Lots of fresh ingredients - compliments to the chef!
