Comments: My fiancé and I had been enjoying Cape Town for the first week of our safari through South Africa, when we started up the coastline towards the Garden Route. We weren’t prepared for the long distances and ended up staying over in several small towns. Although the landscape was beautiful, the food and hospitality was a bit too ‘rural’ for our likes. Then we reached Knysna.
So it was like arriving at an oasis in the desert when we booked in to The Rex Hotel in Knysna and dined at Dish restaurant!
The décor is contemporary and stylish, yet comfy. The smile even returned to my fiancé’s face when her oysters arrived. The waiter informed us that DISH had even won the prize for being the top restaurant in the 2009 Knysna Oyster Cooking Competition.
I’m not a particular fan of oysters though, and started with the Pâté Masson, and went on to the Crusted Lamb Rack. It was superb with the Chocolate Block. Good wines to complement good food. What a winner.
If you’re in the Garden Route area, The Rex Hotel and DISH Restaurant is definitely the spot to be. It saved our trip.

Comments: 10 days driving from Umkomaas KZN to Cape Town and back, 10 days of eating in restaurants, 10 days of frozen chips, Dish was the only true restaurant, perfect food, ambiance and service. 10 out of 10! I only wish Dish were closer to home. Dish gave us exactly what we wanted, good food a perfect setting and service that couldn't be faulted.
I wish Dish Restaurant Knysna all the best and believe me after 10 days of trying to impress my overseas guests with what I considered to be good restaurants Dish was the only one that made a good impression, as I said , I only wish Dish were closer to home or that air flights were cheaper, regardless I wish all at Dish the best and hope to savour their Lamb Shank once more, it was delicious!
