Description: One of the most popular destinations for both locals and visitors to Stellenbosch, the Jan Cats Restaurant (located at the Stellenbosch Hotel), recently launched their new delectable offerings. Under the leadership of head chef Chris Augustyn a new menus is introduced to the acclaimed restaurant. For the Brasserie menu Jan Cats will be offering simple, fresh, well-presented food and will also be offering a variety of flat breads that no one else in Stellenbosch is doing. Jan Cats has a great location in the heart of Stellenbosch, and have plenty of seating both inside and out. There is the Brasserie where people can come and watch their favourite sport. The outside terrace area is perfect for those summer days and the main dining room has a wonderfully intimate feel and atmosphere. The Jan Cats Restaurant was named after the original owner of the property (which was built on land granted by Governor Simon van der Stel between 1692 and 1701). Jan Cats was Stellenbosch?s medical doctor/dentist/barber. The Stellenbosch Hotel, or Swart House, was built after a fire destroyed the original building in the late 18th century and opened its doors in 1876.
