For a unique dinner experience, book a table at "Augusta's African Kitchen" with its focus on pan-African cuisine. "Augusta's African Kitchen" is one of the top places to eat in Swellendam and it reflects the variation and depth of the African continent. We cook because we love the flavours of South Africa as well as the cultural and historic stories behind the flavours - so whether you like koeksisters or koesisters, we want you to be satisfied after dinner. Augusta de Mist has fragrant herb, vegetable gardens, fruit trees and a small olive orchard. At the Kitchen we create and roast our own Masala blends including Ras-el-Hanout, Cape Masala, Kenyan Masala, Durban Masala and good old SA Curry Powder. We also make our own Harissa and even Za'atar. A small selection of Jams, Pomegranate Reductions and Spice Mixes are for sale when available.

A multi-course tasting menu is offered on dinner evenings, with each course providing a celebration of African flavour, colour and provenance. Some of the vegetables and herbs are grown in Augusta de Mist?s own gardens and ceps are picked in the forest in season. Dinners at the African Kitchen are alive with excellent eclectic music, attentive service and the best food around. Expect dishes as varied as Duck Confit, Crispy Pork Belly with Start Anise & Shiraz reduction, Malay Murgh Makhani, Chicken Breyani, Zeilook & Baba Ganoush, Springbok Carpaccio, Lamb Bobotie, Barley Risotto in a number of ways, Lamb Denningvleis, Mwana wa Nkosa, Saffron Tagliatelle with Moroccan Burnt Butter Sauce, Harissa Marinated Chicken with Grapefruit Salad, Karoo Porchetta, Cape Malay Curries, Kenyan Curries, Moroccan Tagines, Tunisian Couscous, Malawian dishes, Tandoor, Goa-style Mozambique peri-peri, Tamarind Chicken, the best-ever Malva Pudding, Tarte au Citron with Confiture de vieux garçon aux Fruits Secs, Bacon Brownies, Syrah Sorbet, ..Hungry yet? (NB, we are not open for dinner in May/June/July due to numbers)

Breakfasts are lazy affairs under summer vines with strong coffee, fresh fruit and country-style hot offerings such as "CEuf Cocotte" or omelets served with crispy bacon if you like. We serve our own homemade jams and preserves as well as stewed fruit. The berry compote is made from local berries, and the scones or muffins are fresh from the oven.
