A Culinary wow

Martin and Debbie Bester

We were looking for a restaurant that is not the average. The Black Bamboo was like a newly found gem. Having a hot, busy and hectic week, the setting was quiet and peaceful and we felt relaxed the moment we entered reception and were greeted by friendly personnel who took us to our table. We sat outside where the tables were well spaced to give us a sense of privacy. The well lit inside area with a high ceiling provided a tranqual, spontaneous atmosphere.

We were treated with a welcome drink and a sample tasting of aged rib-eye steak with a garlic infused sauce. While we waited for our order the waitress served us with fresh bread to dip in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We were not charged for these extras on the bill.

A choice menu with suggested hand picked wines made selection easy. A very interesting craft beer section adds a new angle to the menu.

My wife ordered the kingklip and I ordered sirloin. Both our meals were well prepared, artistically presented, well rounded, multidimensional and very delectable, almost as if the chef put his personal signature in each plate. We decided to also try the desert, and were not disappointed. In total we can't describe the taste sensation we had but the words exquisite, spectacular, excellent and WOW! spring to mind. I think we found a wow restaurant.

Apart from the two main dishes and the deserts, we ordered a bottle of water and I had a craft beer with the meal, and a cappuccino at the end. The bill added up to a decent R529. 00.
