Jonkershuis Constantia Review

In our home, Sunday is a day of rest and relaxation and we always begin our day with a wholesome and hearty breakfast. This past week we decided to get up bright and early and head to Jonkershuis Constantia to start off our day.

Jonkershuis Constantia Review

Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic heart of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate. Surrounded by age-old oak trees it is home to magnificent views of the valley below.

This well-known bistro gives you a variety of options when it comes to seating - on chilly days the indoor seating is great with fireplaces keeping it warm and cosy; outdoors you can choose between the covered Italian style courtyard or umbrella shaded tables on the front lawns, where children can safely run around and play.

For our breakfast we opted to dine outdoors under the beautiful umbrellas. With not a breath of wind, we enjoyed the morning rays of sunshine and fresh greenery around us. Our lovely waitress took down our orders and our delicious goodies were brought to us within a few short minutes.

I enjoyed a decaf Cappuccino and my husband indulged in a delicious double shot latte - both brewed to absolute perfection.

My little one absolutely loved the kiddie's brekkie burger, consisting of cheddar, crispy bacon, garnish, fries and dipping ketchup. (She devoured her meal in no time - I'm sure most kids would be delighted with a burger and chips for breakfast.)

I savoured a Groot Constantia breakfast meal, which included soft and fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy chargrilled bacon (a generous portion too), pork banger, juicy grilled tomato, sautéed mushrooms and freshly toasted ciabatta, along with farm fresh butter and preserves.

My husband (much like our little one) was also pleased to delight in a burger for breakfast and he ordered the enormous Breakfast Beef Burger with smoky BBQ basting, garnish, fried egg, chargrilled bacon, house pickle, fries and dipping hollandaise - perfect for a large appetite.

Our meals were cooked perfectly, and served hot and fresh. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was incredibly peaceful.

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day so if you're looking to start off your day the right way then a visit to Jonkershuis is a must.

Breakfast at Jonkershuis Constantia is served between 09h00 - 11h30 and the menu offers a great range of options sure to satisfy every taste.

During our next visit I will definitely be trying the Berry & Beets Super Smoothie, prepared with Hijke natural yoghurt, coconut water, ice, ginger, red apple, goji berry and dried cranberry - sounds heavenly!

We would also love to visit for dinner, as I am told that the sunset views from this picturesque estate are nothing short of breath-taking.

The appealing Summer Menu at the Jonkershuis Eatery pays homage to the rich cultural history of the estate through authentic Cape Malay inspired bistro style food. It is great to know that their chef's source fresh and sustainable produce daily and they support organic, free range and sustainable practices wherever possible.
