Bertha's Review

Located in the pretty seaside Simon's Town you will find the water's edge Bertha's Restaurant boasting picturesque views across the yacht harbour and over False Bay.

Bertha

Recently my family and I had the pleasure of dining at Bertha's on a cool Cape Town Friday evening. Warmly greeted at the door, we were shown to our table and placed our order for drinks right away.

I enjoyed a glass of Brampton Sauvignon Blanc, zesty upfront with passion fruit and litchi aromas. Hubby enjoyed the usual Castle Lite draught and the little one of course indulged in a strawberry milkshake.

To start off with we enjoyed some West Coast Mussels prepared in a creamy and rich white wine sauce, deep fried calamari rings which were superbly tasty and fresh as well as a Salmon and Avo salad, packed full of flavour consisting of smoked salmon and avo, drizzled with a yoghurt and dill dressing and served on a bed of crisp greens.

For mains we indulged in seafood pasta filled with mussels, prawns, calamari and catch of the day all perfectly tossed together in a creamy garlic white sauce with penne pasta - bursting with so many tantalising flavours and textures. We also enjoyed a kilo of prawns served with freshly prepared chips and a delicious garlic sauce.

The little one enjoyed a kiddie's calamari and chips which was extremely tender and cooked to absolute perfection. She enjoyed every last bite!

For dessert we opted to share a decadent Lindt chocolate brownie served with smooth vanilla ice-cream, which made for a perfect ending to our dining experience at Bertha's.

The service was excellent and the relaxed, warm ambiance made for a great visit.

Bertha's offers a varied menu - with the emphasis being on fresh seafood. It's safe to say there is probably something for everyone to enjoy from seafood platters to grills and burgers, a kiddies menu as well as an extensive wine list. They are also open for breakfast with a very reasonably priced breakfast menu.
