An amazing visit to Excelsior Wine Estate

During our recent visit to the Robertson Wine Valley we were told that a stop at Excelsior is a must. We headed there around midday on a sunny Saturday to do some exploring.

An amazing visit to Excelsior Wine Estate

Excelsior

The De Wet family have farmed at Excelsior Estate, in the Robertson wine valley, since 1859 when Koos de Wet settled here and began clearing the veld of the Little Karoo. It is the philosophy at Excelsior that good wine is made in the vineyards and the winemaker can only succeed if he has good basic ingredients with which to work.

Graze@excelsior is situated on the banks of the farm's dam with a large expanse of lawn in front of it, perfect for the kids to enjoy themselves in view of but not necessarily earshot of their parents.

Another highlight to enjoy at Excelsior is their fabulous range of elegant wines, these include the Reserve Range, Classic Range and Purebred Range.

During our visit we indulged in a delicious tasting and enjoyed a lovely variety of red and white wines, served by the helpful and friendly staff. The views from the tasting area are breath-taking and really adds a special element to the Excelsior Experience.

We were then given a very informative and interesting talk by our host Bruce, on how to make our very own Excelsior Creation. Here guests have the opportunity to blend and bottle their own Excelsior wines.

During the blending process we were given a measuring beaker to try out different blends until we found the right one.

I opted to go for with a magnificent blend of 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Shiraz and 40% Merlot.

We bottled our wine, inserted the corks with a nifty press, sealed it and labelled it ourselves - a great experience enjoyed with good company.

This was nothing short of amazing, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Excelsior Wines and will definitely pop in while in the Valley again soon!
