Amazing tasting at Tanagra Wine & GuestfarmTanagra was brought to life by Robert and Anette Rosenbach in the scenic valley of McGregor, surrounded by vineyards, indigenous fynbos and a majestic range of mountains. The boutique winery at Tanagra produces an exclusive range of handpicked and handcrafted wines. The beautiful vineyards are situated right next to the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve surrounded by wild fynbos and succulent karoo, creating highly aromatic and unique wines. Tanagra is also a member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative and commits itself to sustainable farming and wine production. The distillery itself is a sight to behold and is home to a 200 litre still. In Germany (Robert's home country) he sourced a stunning copper still pot combined with a shiny stainless steel column - this combination allows to distill a purer yield in a single process, resluting in very refined spirits. The Tanagra Distillery offers a great range of stylish Marc (also known as Grappa) and Eau de Vie (fruit spirits). The Lemon Eau de Vie was definitely a favourite for us, it was incredibly flavourful and vibrant. We also tried the Orange Liquer which was absolutely heavenly. We also indulged in some of the great wines here - The Tanagra Carah was nothing short of amazing, we just had to take some home with us! Robert took us on a very interesting tour of the farm and gave us a peak at the lovely accommodation also available here. There are a range of beautiful apartments and cottages to choose from. Some are located close to the historic homestead while others are tucked away in the wild fynbos of the surrounding hills. Our visit to Tanagra was wonderfully fascinating and we really enjoyed the unique tasting experience exscluisively found at this enchanting spot in the McGregor Valley. A huge thank you to our admirable host, Robert, who made the experience all the more special and memorable. For more info on Tanagra, click here. |
