Recently my family and I had the pleasure of treating ourselves to a magnificent Lunch at Black Marlin located in the beautiful seaside destination of Simon's Town.

This historical building, once a whaling station, ensures the perfect setting for an idyllic lunch or evening experience. During whale season, guests often enjoy their meal whilst watching whales sidling along the coastline. Established as a restaurant since the mid 1960's, the Black Marlin has earned a reputation for its stunning seafood, award-winning wine list, attentive service and incredible views.

It is also the perfect venue for spectacular weddings and impressive year-end functions.

The Black Marlin offers an extensive menu with the main emphasis on seafood, complimented by other choices of fine contemporary cuisine. House specialities include Cape Rock lobster, Seafood platters, oysters and mussels. Through the many years of providing top quality fresh seafood and impeccable service to the locals and foreign tourists, this restaurant has become world-famous.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our very comfy and elegant seats, boasting spectacular views of the surrounding area.

To start off with we placed our orders for starters. We delighted in the West Coast Mussels - Fresh black mussels gently steamed open in white wine, cream & garlic sauce. The mussels were perfectly cooked and the sauce was well-balanced and full of flavour.

We also enjoyed a Prawn & Avo Salad consisting of 5 grilled prawns on a bed of greens, topped with avocado & drizzled with a homemade island dressing. The salad was fresh, crunch and offered a variety of delicious flavours and textures.

For the mains my little one opted for her favourite - the kiddies Calamari and Chips of course! She enjoyed every last bite.

I enjoyed a 200g Beef Fillet, plain grilled & served with a choice of mashed potatoes, rice or chips & salad or seasonal vegetables. I opted for the rice and veggies with my meal. The steak was medium just as I had requested, it was incredibly tender and juicy. The mushroom sauce i ordered was a perfect match to this fillet, it was deliciously creamy and rich.

My hubby ordered the delectable 300g Grilled Sirloin - choice sirloin steak served with a choice of mashed potatoes, rice or chips & salad or seasonal vegetables. He opted for the chips and fresh salad. His steak was also served medium as requested, it was grilled to absolute pefection!

Thereafter we indulged in some dessert! We opted to share and orderd the Trio Dessert - Malva pudding, Creme Brulee & Angels Delight beautifully presented & perfect for sharing. My little one absolutely loved the Angels Delight (Baked Belgian chocolate tart). I really enjoyed the Creme Brulee, it was definitely one the best I have ever tasted. The Malva was warm, soft and fresh, just as it should be.

After satisfying our appetites, we relaxed for a little while longer and enjoyed a much needed family catch-up session.

We were really so impressed with the service and quality of food offered at Black Marlin and cannot wait to visit again soon!
