At long last Mamma Roma has arrived in the northern suburbs with ample parking right outside the door of the Colosseum building at Century City. Romano and Christina Gorrini have worked exceedingly hard to build up a fine reputation for the Mamma Roma group, and together with new partner Devon Mathews are intent on maintaining those same standards at the Colosseum which is by far the largest restaurant in the group. It is also the most impressive, with its soaring double volume ceiling and seating spread over three levels.

No expense has been spared in creating this exciting interior, which whilst certainly expansive, is by no means sparse. It is modern yet rustic; a look which has been effortlessly achieved with bold colouring on the walls combined with different textures of face brick, wood, and stone cladding. The upper level is ideal for private functions and offers conference facilities with a computer compatible projector screen. It can accommodate 40 people seated for a set menu or buffet, and up to 60 for a cocktail function. There is also a covered outside patio, with stunning views of Table Mountain which forms a most pleasing back drop for alfresco dining.

Devon Mathews, having worked overseas for a Michelin-star Chef, has now returned to South Africa to combine his extensive culinary skills with Romano?s wealth of experience as a successful restaurateur. The menu features all the well known Mamma Roma specialities with both the Antipasto and Carpaccio firm favourites on the starter menu. The veal dishes are a consistently good choice for main course, as is the Kingklip & Calamari Marinara. For dessert try the Lemon Tart or the Italian Chocolate Brownie.
