Explore the Paternoster Voorstrandt beach and you will come accross, tucked in amongst the rocks, a simple white-washed fisherman's cottage, some 70 years in age. Gaaitjie (meaning 'small hole') has turned restaurant and we recreate traditional feelings of comfort from our kitchen which is situated in the middle of the restaurant. The decor is simple yet comfortable, so emphasis remains on the food;- tasty classic and local dishes with a twist, cooked from the freshest, and whenever possible, locally sourced produce. Wines are West Coast specific too!

All food is cooked to order, therefore time is taken but as one diner mentioned, "haven't got anywhere else to be right now"! Feel free to pop into the kitchen so we may accommodate any dietary requirements. Enjoy service from our friendly staff and be sure Letitia (our manager who grew up in Gaaitjie) will tell you a tale or two from her childhood.

Fish is literally on our doorstep, however we excercise respect in terms of sustainability to ocean fayre. Expect some less well-known, but delicious, harders, perdevoet, maasbankers, alikreukel, snoek and hottentot to be dressing our plates this season - and there's land fayre too!

I live to cook and when the 'Salt Water Restaurant' opened its doors in December '09, a life-long dream was achieved. More than anything, I love to see people instantly satisfied, having a great time, enjoying delicious food and friendly service........ we know you will return!

And if you can't drag yourself away, we also offer comfortable, overnight accommodation in double en-suite rooms at the Salt Coast Inn.
